IPLupdate : Following the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan on Thursday night, the senior brass of the Board of Control for Cricket in India convened virtually to discuss the issue.

IPL 2025 Postponed Amid India-Pakistan Tensions: BCCI Issues Statement

According to a BCCI announcement, the current Indian Premier League (IPL) season has been postponed for one week with immediate effect due to the ongoing border tensions between India and Pakistan.

In a statement, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated, “Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.”

“While the BCCI has complete faith in the strength and readiness of our armed forces, the Board felt it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders,” the statement added. “The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, as well as the views of the broadcaster, sponsors, and fans.”

“The BCCI is steadfastly supporting the country at this crucial moment. We show our support for the Indian government, the armed forces, and the nation’s citizens. As they lead a resolute response to the recent terrorist attack and the unjustified aggression by Pakistan’s armed forces, the Board salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation,” the BCCI said.

Border Tensions Force IPL 2025 Postponement: New Schedule Soon

Even though cricket is still a national sport, nothing is more important than the nation and its security, integrity, and sovereignty. The BCCI is steadfast in its resolve to back any initiatives that protect India and will always base its choices on what is best for the country.

Following the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan on Thursday night, the top brass of the Board of Control for Cricket in India convened virtually earlier in the day to examine the issue.

Government representatives and BCCI officials have discussed the issue. After several foreign players and coaches felt uneasy about playing in the current circumstances, the tournament was decided to be put on hold.

The remaining tournament games will be rescheduled for a later time of the year if the competition cannot resume in a week. There are still 13 league games to be played, including Thursday’s postponed Delhi Capitals vs. Punjab Kings game, and four playoff games left.

In June and July, the Indian cricket team will go to England for a five-Test trip. In India, the next opportunity might only present itself after the monsoon season. Due to the IPL’s significant commercial value, it will take precedence over all other Indian bilateral cricket matches. Other cricket boards would need to collaborate with them to accommodate the availability of players from other countries.

  • An example of that occurred in 2021 when the IPL was halted due to the Covid pandemic. Later in the year, the rest of the tournament was played in the United Arab Emirates.
  • Due to air raid alerts in nearby cities of Jammu and Pathankot, the Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals IPL match at Dharmshala was called off in the middle of the game. As of right now, it is known that players, match officials, and broadcast staff can travel safely by train from Dharmshala to Delhi.

England offer to host IPL matches after season is suspended

Indian Premier League is halted for a week due to India-Pakistan tensions but could resume in the UK in September after ECB gives its ‘full support’. Pakistan Super League also suspended indefinitely

In response to the suspension, England has offered to host the tournament’s remaining matches, proposing a September resumption post the Hundred competition, although this would require significant scheduling adjustments. Venues such as South Africa and the UK are being considered, but no formal decision has been made yet.
