SSTM under complete over to police : How did this accident happen?
On Wednesday around 8:20 a.m.,fire broke out once more in several market floors.
According to Surat Fire Department sources, more than 200 firefighters were sent out in ten squads to put out the fires before new ones started on Wednesday.
“We are also surprised that the fire broke out again (on Wednesday), despite being fully controlled on Tuesday evening,” stated Ishwar Patel, deputy chief fire officer. The market’s primary power source was cut off. We learned that someone had started the power supply using the generator after speaking with a few market participants. There could have been a spark from this. It’s possible that the fire began later and spread to other floors.

Ishwar Patel added, “On Tuesday, the fire was only found in the lower basement area, but on Wednesday, it was observed in various locations on various floors. The bazaar was engulfed in flames. To put out the fire, we had to disperse our crew in various directions and disable the locks on the major doors.
Since Wednesday, Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) security personnel have been stationed at the fire scene 24/7 to prevent anyone from entering, even those associated with the Shiv Shakti Textile Market.
But at about 3 p.m., an hour after the fire was contained and several of our team members were leaving to rest, flames began to emerge from the fourth and fifth floor windows once more. The crews sprang into action right away,” Patel stated.
