According to a news agency PTI report, during PM Modi‘s visit to Sri Lanka, India and Sri Lanka are expected to announce about ten important agreements, including important collaborations in the areas of digitalization, energy security, and defense.
It is anticipated that the talks between PM Modi and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, which are set for this Saturday, will usher in a new era of bilateral collaboration between the two countries.
A group of Indian-origin persons greeted PM Modi at his hotel, the Taj Samudra, where he is spending the three days of his trip, after he arrived in Sri Lanka following a two-day visit to Thailand.
Dissanayake is hosting a foreign leader for the first time in his role as president. In 2019, PM Modi made his most recent trip to Sri Lanka.

Both one-on-one and delegation-level discussions between PM Modi and Dissanayake are anticipated to produce at least ten significant results, including a defense cooperation pact and increased cooperation in the energy sector, according to the PTI report.
Following the controversial withdrawal of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) from Sri Lanka more than thirty years ago, the possible signing of an MOU on defense cooperation is regarded as a significant move in India-Sri Lanka relations, indicating a new chapter in defense ties.
Sri Lanka is currently recuperating from the devastating economic catastrophe that struck the nation three years ago, which coincides with PM Modi’s visit. India was instrumental in helping Sri Lanka during its time of need by contributing $4.5 billion in financial aid.
Two important documents pertaining to India’s backing of Sri Lanka‘s debt restructuring and currency swap are anticipated to be released to the public after the discussions. Agreements on collaboration in the digital domain are also anticipated to be signed by the two countries.
A number of India-assisted projects in Sri Lanka will be launched during P Modi’s visit, including the Sampur solar energy project’s virtual groundbreaking, which is anticipated to mark a significant turning point in the two countries’ bilateral cooperation.
On April 6, PM Modi and Dissanayake will also visit the ancient city of Anuradhapura, where they will jointly open two projects supported by India and pay their respects at the Mahabodhi temple.
